Starting 18th of September 2016 till 28th of June 2017.

At Associated Studios we are passionate about Musical Theatre and have forged strong and trusted links with industry professionals over many years. We pride ourselves in understanding industry requirements and knowing a vast variety of experienced and generous practitioners ready to offer you help and advice whilst you are studying with us, and afterwards. Vocal technique, vocal stamina and development is a particular focus at the studios.

We assist you in developing a rigorous practice routine and choosing and consolidating suitable repertoire covering all the genres you are likely to need for future auditions. We believe that performing takes regular and frequent practice and facilitate this in all our courses by keeping numbers of participants strictly limited to a maximum of 16. You will build your confidence, learn to allow yourself to fail and have a chance to sing and perform solo daily. You will receive training in performance craft, dance and intensive acting coaching.

You will discover and develop your unique selling point and castability. Each performer receives unparalelled individual attention in order to develop as a person and as an artist. Our members and alumni feature as leads, swings and ensemble in London’s West End, regional and international touring productions.

This 32 – week course offers intensive practical training in singing, acting and dance/movement, all the skills required to become an outstanding, versatile ‘triple-threat’ musical theatre performer. The course also offers one-to one singing lessons and termly projects including an in-house production, creating a concert/cabaret and recording in a studio. The course focuses on building the vocal, physical and mental stamina required to succeed in a competitive business. This intensive year of study culminates with a West End showcase performance to which industry professionals including agents and casting directors are invited.

“Aspiring musical theatre performers need a thorough training, not only to develop and perfect their craft but to understand the importance of discipline, hard-work and passion. This exciting new course will prepare you for a competitive but thrilling business and inspire you as a performer. You will be working with brilliant practitioners who have an extraordinary wealth of knowledge. “– Sir Tim Rice: Patron of The Associated Studios London

Each term students will concentrate on a specific project that has been designed to enhance their skills, repertoire and resources. The Programme:
The first term project will focus on a Concert/Cabaret, enabling each student to create his or her own work. Working with a professional creative team, students will devise a show that demonstrates their artistic personality and voice type, and depending on ability may include acting, comedy and dance. This process will introduce students to solo cabaret work, which will be extremely beneficial in such a diverse profession. Working with Associated Studios coaches, small groups of students will secure a venue to present their work in front of an audience. Although Musical Theatre repertoire will be the bulk of most of these cabarets, some students may wish to explore Jazz/Blues/Pop or even classical genres. The Cabaret is designed to showcase the skills and talents of each individual performer and to encourage students to think as working artists creating work and opportunities for themselves. Students should start to research great Cabaret artists ranging from artists such as Lotte Lenya to Ute Lemper, Meow Meow, Frisky and Mannish, Elaine Stritch, Steve Ross to Camille O’Sullivan. Students should consider composers, lyrics, themes and styles they feel passionately about. As well as working on their Cabaret, students will focus on all the skills required as a professional musical theatre performer throughout the entire course including continuous work on audition repertoire, vocal technique, dance, acting and performance skills.

In the second term students will work on an in-house production. This is usually double-cast in order to give all students a chance to learn a larger role. The second term will also concentrate on career development skills. This will include audition technique, working on songs and monologues and getting feed back from a panel consisting of industry experts including Directors, Casting Directors and Agents. Additionally students will be given practical advice on marketing tools, including photos and CV’s. They will be guided in regard to their ideal casting and strengths. Appropriate audition repertoire will be chosen for each student. As Associated Studios works closely with the profession, industry trends and upcoming shows are always taken into account.

The final term will focus on audition technique and the final industry showcase. At the end of this term students should have a complete audition repertoire folder and other material required to help secure auditions and professional work. Students will be introduced to the rigours and disciplines of a professional company rehearsal process. Singers will also get the chance to record a demo tape, very useful to upload on casting sites such as Spotlight.
